Congratulations and many blessings to our young parishioners who recently received Sacraments of Initiation. On Tuesday, May 2nd, our seventh grade school students and our seventh level PREP students were confirmed in the faith by Archbishop James P. Green in a beautiful liturgy in our upper church. Archbishop Green, who is a son of Saint Timothy’s and recently retired as a member of the Vatican’s diplomatic corps, celebrated a wonderful liturgy and engaged our young people in an equally wonderful homily, in which he not only reminded them of the significance and importance of the sacrament of Confirmation, but reminded them as well of the responsibility they have assumed in being confirmed and having the courage to bring the message of the Gospel to a world that is becoming increasingly deaf and apathetic to its message. Please continue to pray for these young people, that the Holy Spirit will fill them with his power to make them the strong, committed Christians Jesus calls them to be.
This past Saturday, May 13th, our second grade school students and our second level PREP students received the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist for the first time at my hands. Please continue to pray for these children, that the love of God that is revealed to them most perfectly in the Body and Blood of Christ which they are now privileged to share, will continue to transform them and shape them into the One who so generously feeds them with His very self.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped to form our young people in the faith, and who prepared them for the reception of the sacraments. I thank first and foremost their parents and guardians, who so generously and lovingly share the faith they have received with their children, and who continue to model, especially through their good example, what it means to be committed to the faith in word and deed. In a particular way I thank Mrs. Cheryl Kirschman and our PREP catechists, as well as Mrs. Maureen Pfeiffer and our school teachers, for they work they do in the classroom, teaching our young people the faith and preparing them for their sacramental liturgies. I would also like to single out Miss Anne Coneghen, who works so hard to make sure our candidates are ready to participate fully in their liturgical celebrations and to ensure that the liturgies themselves are carried out magnificently.
This coming Wednesday, May 17th at 1:00 P.M., our school children will be participating in our annual May Procession to honor our Blessed Lady. This is always a beautiful tribute to the Mother of God, and a perfect way for us to express our devotion to her, our greatest intercessor and advocate. This year, the children will process up Hawthorne Street, up Levick Street, and into the upper church, where Our Lady will be crowned, and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament will be celebrated. I cordially invite all our parishioners to join our children in this loving tribute.
The great feast of the Lord’s Ascension will be celebrated this coming Thursday, May 18th. Masses will be celebrated according to our normal holyday schedule: 6:30, 8:30 A.M., 12:05 and 7:00 P.M. at Saint Timothy, and 10:00 A.M. at Saint Bartholomew. There will be no vigil Mass on Wednesday evening.
Next weekend, May 20-21, we will be taking up a special second collection for the benefit of our Blessed Trinity Regional School. We have designated Wednesday, May 24 as a special online Blessed Trinity Day of Giving, and the monies we collect next weekend will supplement what we collect online on May 24. These monies collected for our school will be specifically used to upgrade the electricity in our school buildings, especially since, with the use of advanced technology, we use our electrical system much more than in the past, and have found that, in many ways, our school electrical structures are inadequate to our present needs. Your generosity in this second collection next weekend and in our online Day of Giving on May 24, will enable us to achieve our goal of upgrading our electrical systems for the benefit of our present and future Blessed Trinity students. I thank you in advance for your generosity.
Happy Mothers’ Day to all of our mothers, grandmothers, Godmothers, and those who, in any way, are mother-figures. The love that you give to those in your lives whom you nurture and care for is unmatched on this earth, and it is so right that we take this day to honor all of you for what you do each day. It is also fitting that we remember with love our deceased mothers, and pray that they be given the reward promised by God to all those who, in this life, are faithful. Know that you and those you love are daily remembered in my Mass and my prayers.
