Dear Friends,
You may have noticed that the front of Saint Bartholomew’s Church has recently been re-lit at night. For a long time it was in complete darkness. There was a problem with the large lights on either side of the entrance, as well as with the wiring. I want to thank Bill Miller, for giving of his time, talent, and treasure to repair what was broken, not only so that the church is lit as a deterrent to crime, but more so that people are able to see how beautiful the exterior of our church is. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Bill and Barbara Pippet for the time and talent they give weekly in providing our musical leadership at Saint Bartholomew’s 10:00 Mass.
You will also notice that, on either side of the main entrance to Saint Bartholomew’s, there are beautiful mums that were planted in the large planters that have been sitting empty for quite some time. Those mums are the gift of Rick Gross. Rick gives generously of his time, talent, and treasure, to care for the lawns at Saint Bart’s, and to make sure the grounds, including the Lourdes grotto and the prayer garden, are in tip-top condition. Rick does this regularly, without any assistance, and I want him to know that we are all grateful.
At all the Masses at Saint Timothy’s this weekend, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the dedication of the upper church. This took place on Saturday, October 25, 1952, when Bishop George L. Leech, the-then Bishop of Harrisburg, consecrated the church in the presence of Archbishop John F. O’Hara, the-then Archbishop of Philadelphia. On the following day, Sunday, October 26, 1952, the first Solemn Mass was celebrated.
We also celebrate this weekend World Mission Sunday. World Mission Sunday is a way for us to support the missionary effort of the Church and the fine work of the dedicated missionaries --- lay men and women, religious priests, brothers, and sisters, and diocesan priests --- by our financial and prayerful support. The second collection today is for World Mission Sunday. Your generosity is, as always, very much appreciated.
I remind you of:
Know that you and those you love are daily remembered in my Mass and my prayers.
Love and prayers,
Father Olivere
