This past week the Office of Catholic Education of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that, after a thorough review of their standardized testing data, Blessed Trinity School is among this year’s Archdiocesan Schools of Distinguished Instruction. I am proud to inform you that this is the second year in a row that Blessed Trinity has achieved this important recognition.
In determining the candidates for this award, the Office of Catholic Education noted Blessed Trinity’s growth by comparing the Normal Curve Equivalent (NCE) score from this year’s testing to the NCE in the last test the students took. The office noted that our students gave evidence of expected or greater-than-expected growth. Our Blessed Trinity students were found to have shown a full year’s growth in their total mastery of skills at all grades tested.
Congratulations to our Principal, Mrs. Maureen Pfeiffer, and our fine faculty on this great accomplishment and for the outstanding work they do every day with our children. Our classrooms are truly a joy to visit, for they are in every way Christian centers of learning. The results of these standardized tests is proof of the great things our students are achieving, and the beautiful way they interact with one another is strong evidence that Christ is the center of our school and the reason for our school’s existence. Congratulations are also extended to our students for working hard every day to achieve their very best. I also thank our parents, for the many sacrifices they make to send their children to Blessed Trinity and for the excellent cooperation they give us each day as we strive to make our school the very best.
Please mark your calendars for our annual Forty Hours Devotions. This year we will be celebrating this annual Solemn Exposition of the Holy Eucharist from Monday, September 25 through Wednesday, September 27. Each morning the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar of our upper church from after the 8:30 Mass until the devotions that evening. Our devotions each evening will be held at 7:00, and will include Solemn Evening Prayer (Vespers), a homily, and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. We are happy to welcome as our homilist each evening Father Kenneth Cavara. Father Cavara is a priest of the Archdiocese, who is presently the Parochial Vicar (Assistant Pastor) of Saint Monica Parish in South Philadelphia. Do plan to be with us each evening for these important devotions, and also plan on spending some time with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament as he is exposed on our altar during these three days of grace and blessing.
Next Sunday is Catechetical Sunday, on which we thank God for and honor those men and women who serve as teachers of the faith. At the 9:15 Mass next Sunday, we will be offering a blessing to all of our Parish Religious Education Program and Christian Initiation catechists, as well as our school teachers, as they begin their new school year.
Know that you and those you love are daily remembered in my Mass and my prayers.
